SEED.

Smart Hub for two-way charging of electric vehicles

Applications

Bi-directional electric vehicle charging and energy management for home, industrial, and community energy environments

Value

SEED is the first integrated energy management hub developed using a holistic approach. It optimizes user energy exchanges in the domestic and industrial context, including two-way vehicle charging and generation from photovoltaic panels, by optimizing energy flows, maximizing on-site energy consumption, and limiting power conversions

Technology

Two-way charging, smart power management, smart energy measurement, Internet of energy

Problem

The growing need for electricity (related to electric mobility, for example), the need to manage intermittent renewable sources, the need to avoid overloading of electricity distribution networks-these are just some of the issues that make energy management one of the main challenges for global development in the coming years and for the decarbonization of human activities.

Solution

SEED is a system that enables bi-directional charging of electric vehicles according to the ISO 15118-20 standard and allows to optimize energy flows between the devices to which it is connected: for example, it allows electric vehicles to be recharged off-peak and then, using them as static battery storage systems, to feed energy back when needed, locally or on the grid. Thanks to the ability to acquire data from external smart metersi and to interface with cloud management platforms, SEED can optimize energy flows between nodes in an electricity grid, for example by facilitating recharging with renewable energy produced locally or within an energy community.

The interconnection of several SEED devices makes it possible to create multi-point stations with Smart Power Management technology.

SEED is a system entirely developed and implemented by S&H.
